2017 NSF Proposal Writing Workshop

The workshop was collocated with the 45th SME North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) and the ASME Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC 2017).

Speakers

  • Dr. George Hazelrigg emphasized the importance of a clear research objective and discussed how to write effective research objectives based on experiences from many NSF panels.
  • Dr. Steven Schmid provided an overview of CMMI and statistics on funding rates.
  • Dr. Schmitz described the relationship between marketing and metaphor.
  • NSF personnel interacted with attendees in group activities and a question/answer session.

 

Goal

The workshop goal was to aid future NSF proposal submitters in communicating clear research objectives and improving proposal quality.

 

Summary

The workshop included 50 US and international participants. Both individual and group activities were incorporated in the agenda.
