You are welcome to join us!

The Lab for Advanced Manufacturing & Bio-inspired Design Approach (LAMBDA) in the Department of Mechanical and Engineering Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) is hiring PhD, Master’s, and undergraduate students.

Students in our lab are expected to work in highly collaborative research projects at the intersection of advanced manufacturing and bio-inspired design. Specific research areas of interest include multi-material additive manufacturing process development, data-driven process modeling with artificial intelligence methods, bio-inspired design & optimization, and soft robotics.

PHD students:

We invite applications for fully-funded PhD positions at LAMBDA. For this position, all students must submit an official application to the PhD program in the MEES department. Visit this department website for more information.

  • Requirements:
    • Degree(s) in a related field, such as Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics etc.
    • Strong background in manufacturing and material science.
    • Proficiency in Solidworks/AutoCAD or equivalent mechanical design software.
    • Oral and written fluency in English

*Note: GRE is waived for Spring/Fall 2022 admissions.

If you are interested, feel free to email Dr. Joyee (ejoyee@uncc.edu) with your interests and a current CV.

MS students:

LAMBDA is recruiting highly motivated Master’s students in multi-material 3D printing, data driven additive manufacturing, and multi-scale advanced manufacturing with strong quantitative backgrounds, programming skills, and creative ideas. There are several ways that Master’s students can get involved in the research in our lab.

If you are interested, feel free to email Dr. Joyee (ejoyee@uncc.edu) with your interests and a current CV. If you are not a UNCC student yet, please directly apply to the program of UNCC-MEES. Visit this link for more information.

Undergraduate students:

There are a wide range of research opportunities for UNCC undergraduate students. If you have interest in the field of 3D printing and manufacturing, we highly encourage you to join LAMBDA. Feel free to email Dr. Joyee (ejoyee@uncc.edu) with your interests and a current CV.
