Please keep in mind that the University of North Carolina Charlotte is a highly competitive university and that you must be accepted to the graduate program prior to joining our lab.

Required:

  • Acceptance to the UNC Charlotte graduate program
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills

Students interested in joining the THinC Lab should be motivated and hard-working individuals who are interested in control theory and application. A desirable candidate should be interested in developing novel modeling, sensing and control techniques, as well as implementing these strategies on experimental testbeds. In addition to controls, this lab focuses on human-machine interaction. This is a very hands-on lab, in which the students will have a unique opportunity to be involved in the design, fabrication, and set-up of the individual test platforms.

Along with a desire to be at the forefront of emerging technologies, the candidate should meet certain qualifications. In particular, individuals with experience in some of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

Programming skills: Matlab/Simulink; Arduino; dSPACE; C

Mechanical skills: CAD; 3D rapid prototyping; machining; part assembly; hardware implementation

Electrical skills: soldering; circuit board design/fabrication; signal processing; sensors; electronic implementation

Theoretical background: controls; dynamics; signal processing; modeling; process control; optimization

Equipment: oscilloscope; amplifier; voltmeter; function generator; digital signal analyzer; dSPACE; DAQ systems

Interested individuals should provide their CV and a statement indicating their areas of interest to Amir H. Ghasemi (ah.ghasemi@uncc.edu).
